Plan Phase Instructions


In the Plan Phase, students will produce a Step-by-Step Task List that details what must be accomplished, what materials/equipment is needed, an approximation on when the task will begin and how long it will take. This part of the portfolio document will help the student keep on task and on time with the production of their documentary video and ensure that the student has what they need - when they need it.

Students should take an opportunity to reflect on and evaluate their plan (before submission) to ensure it is practical and makes good use of resources and time. The Plan Evaluation should be directly noted on the portfolio document and might include questions such as:

  • Does my plan make good use of resources and time?
  • What areas of my plan (or design) do I foresee as becoming possible issues that would need to be addressed?
  • Does my plan make clear and logical sense?
  • Would someone else be able to follow my plans and be able to create a product of acceptable quality?

Students should try their best to adhere to the plans they create, however, in the event that a plan (or design) needs to be changed, students should be sure to take note of this in their process journals.

(*At the end of class on April 12th, your Design Tech instructor will give you a temporary grade for your Task List and Plan Evaluation. This temporary grade will only be an indication of what you would earn if no more work was done on the it. The Plan Phase documents will receive their final assessment after the product is due on May 24th. Any changes made between the 7th and the 24th will be considered when the final grade is given for the planning stage.)

    • When will this task be started/completed and an approximation on the approximate time it will take
