Athlete in Training: Soccer Player

Essential Investigative Questions and Prompts:

State the task in your own words, and why it is important to you and to others (in your community and the world wide community):

We are making a health and fitness video about a sport, so that an athlete will know where to go in order to practice. As well as the proper nutrition, weight routines and streches. However, if they have never played the sport before, this will help them to learn the where to go to learn the skills, who to talk to, and what diet is needed. By making this video, we are helping to get kids active and interested in some type of sport or physical activity.

State how the task is related to the AoI (and the guiding question):

The AOI is Community and Service. Our task is related to the AOI because we are helping the community. We are helping others to get up and get active in a way that is fun for us. People need to have motivation in order to fully commit to something, so if they find a sport or activity that they wanna learn to play and get better at, then they'll be closer to living a healthy lifestyle.

The guiding question is; How can I pull my own weight? For PE it stands for actually using your weight and skills in order to get physically fit. For Tech, however, it stands for your work in the group. Are you doing what you're supposed to be doing in the group? Are you doing to much of the work, or to little of the work, or do you have the right amount where everyone is doing an equal workload? This is important and pertinent when putting together a project like this, so that one person isn't stuck doing all the work, yet gets the same grade as the other who did little or nothing.

Investigate and list available tools and resources and list them here:

They are video camera, props like fake food and soccer stuff, people like soccer coaches. We also have the weight room and equipment, as well as the soccer field. There's also resources out in the community. We have places like the Kailua Recreational Center, organizations like HISA and AYSO, and people like Coach Paco, Coach Lawrence, and Mr. Liedtke.

Write a concise description of the task and your solution (Design Brief) addressing who, what, why, and how:

Our task is to get those who play soccer better at playing soccer. However, we are also trying to get those who don't play a sport to become interested in soccer. We will be talking about the different excercises this type of athlete does. As well as nutrition facts, and place to go to practice and play. We will make the information as concise and clear as possible, and make sure that we have the proper facts. In order to accomplish this goal, we will research, and interview different coaches and players to get the facts.

Make a list of specifications that your product and presentation MUST have (Design Specification):

The information must be concise, clear, and truthful. The video must be in quality condition, and the stretches and workout must be correct for that specific athlete. For example, you can't have a ballet dancer lifting 100 pounds everyday, that is the wrong workout for that kind of athlete. Also, when doing the workouts, the subjects must be knowledgeable about the muscles they're working.

A nutrition plan must be perfectly mapped out. Things like; what they eat every day, what they'd eat before practice, what they'd eat before a game, and what they'd eat after a game is important imformation when talking about that athlete's diet and nutritional needs.

When talking about the places where an athlete can practice and play, one must remember to find areas that are accesible to all, and are appropriate for that athlete. For example, you can't have a golfer practicing in a pool, but they can practice on an empty field or golf course. Also, make sure you include a contact number for a coach or keeper of a facility or team.

List 4 different sources, and cite them properly (You need at least 4 and they must eventually be in MLA format):

  1. "AYSO: Contact Us." AYSO - American Youth Soccer Organization. Web. 15 Sept. 2011.
  2. Coach Paco. "Soccer Player Nutrition." Personal interview.
  3. "Club Directory Search - US Youth Soccer." US Youth Soccer Homepage - US Youth Soccer. Web. 16 Sept. 2011.
  4. "Club Directory Search - US Youth Soccer." US Youth Soccer Homepage - US Youth Soccer. Web. 16 Sept. 2011.

Summarize how useful and reliable each source was:

These sources were very reliable. He was unhelpful. He really helped us to get reliable informations about the sport. The rest of the sources are organizations and contact information we found for our project.

Describe a set of Tests for Success that you will perform on your product to see if your solution was successful (Think of each of the design specs you must meet and how you can test them individually!):

We can find soccer players and soccer coaches around the school, and show them our video. Then, after we show the video, we can handout a survey asking them what things they thought were true, how they can get better based on the video's information, and what things in the video they have already been doing.
